Who was Diogenes?

Diogenes of Sinope was the Greek philosopher, ascetic, wit, curmudgeon, and member of the School of Cynics in Ancient Greece. He preached self-sufficiency and practical goodness rather the pursuit of riches. He was reputed to have walked through Athens in broad daylight with a lantern, looking for an honest man.
